Divers found the oldest champagne on Baltic seabed

On the Baltic seabed divers have found 30 bottles of champagnes which is pre-dated to the French revolution.

When they opened the bottled they found that the wine was made by veuve clicquot between the years 1782 to 1788 and they also found that the wine is still in good condition.

The shape of the bottle indicates that the wine was produced in the 18th century and the bottles were now been send to France for analysis. If this has been confirmed in the test then this will be oldest drinkable champagne in the world.

The bottles were found by diver Christian erstrom when he was exploring a shipwreck in the Baltic seabed.

The diver took the bottles to the surface where he opened it and tasted it along with his colleagues. He said the reporters that the wine tasted fantastic.

He explained the wine as “it has a very sweet taste and had the taste of the oak and had the strong smell of tobacco. The wine has only very small bubbles.

The bottles were found at the seabed on 16th July 2010 and the experts think that the bottles would go for a high price at the public sale.

The wines were still in good condition because of the darkness and the cold temperature under the seabed which helped the wine to preserve the wine themselves.

If the research says that the bottle comes from 1780s then it would be around 40 years old and the current record holder is a bottle of Perrier jouet from 1825.

And the wine experts have judged that each bottle would go for around 500,000 Swedish kronor.

Rose wine

Rose wines also know as blush in North America and rosé in Europe is a pink colored wine made from the red grapes where the skin of the grapes is allowed to have contact with juices for a short period of time (i.e. till the juice has achieved some sufficient color) Then the process is continued as done for the white wine.

The style of the rose wine can vary widely which can range from light to full subtle flavors and from refreshing to assertive. New world rose wines are very try with aroma of riper fruit flavors. On the other hand the North American rose wines are sweet and they are referred as sweet rose wines or Blush.

Rose wines are typically made from Grenache grapes and it is made in number of countries. California is famous for the white zinfandel rose wine which is a trademark of blush wine made from the zinfandel grape. Rose wines are prepared from the following red grape varieties:

• Pinot Noir
• Syrah
• Grenache
• Merlot
• Malbec
• Cabernet Sauvignon
• Tempranillo
• Sangiovese
• Zinfandel

France is the top producer of rose wine.

Rose wines are made in many different ways. Some winemakers crush the red grapes and leave the skin of the grape to have contact in with the juice to get some pinkish color. On the other hand some winemakers just add the white wine to the red wine to get more blush color.

Rose wines are best when they are served fresh and young. Only the complex version can age for 2 to 3 years. Rose wines can be served chilled around the temperature of about 8 to 12 degree Celsius or about 50 degree Fahrenheit.

Rose wines pair better with lighter Mediterranean fare, fruits, olives, and cured meats. They are not suitable for heavier dishes like steak. But they go well with hot dishes like skewered shrimp, pasta and vegetables. In short it can be said that rose wines are well appreciated on the cool libation for a hot day.

Organic White Wine

Now-a-days our consumption habits has increased our concerns about the health benefits and the new trend in the market called “going organic” shows no sign of going down. However the term organic remains a mystery with many people totally confused what it is.

It is a general fact that the organic fruit and vegetables that are kept away from the use of any chemicals and other chemical nasties during their growth process is good for health and the notion for organic white wine is a bit more complex than other organic drinks. You might ask question like what does the word organic refers to and what are the effects it will have in our health (whether it would be positive or negative) on tasting.

The first thing to be noted is that the term organic is suitable for the wines that are produced directly from the grape without the use of any chemical pesticide, herbicide and synthetic fertilizer. White wines abide all these rule will be officially announced as organic and it will be given an official stamp on the bottle label.

This may sound simple when hearing but having a look at it practically proves that there are many complications in it. There are various degrees of organic-ness for preparing white wines since some may be made from organic grapes while others are prepared using organic practices till packaging stage.

Organic white wines are very popular among the vegetarians since they do not contain fish or any other animal by-products which are sometimes used as an ingredient in the standard wine bottles. A very good example for organic wine is the French Chardonnay Domaine Delmas Limoux. This organic wine is deliciously drinkable and its flavor is not affected by artificial pesticides and animal by-products. Vegetarians who like to buy organic white wines that are meat free should not forget to check the label for the “V” tick in the bottle label which guarantees that it is pure vegetarian.

To get 100% organic white wine, the making of white wine should be done in the process that does not involve any chemical fertilizers or other additives in the vineyard soil. Each single grape that is used for the preparation of white wine needs to be grown organically and have to be qualified. Since this is a very challenging thing since pests and weather conditions can damage the life of the vine, 100% organic white wines are produced in small quantities and they are good when consumed while they are young itself.
