Wine And Your Health

Drinking wine moderately that is having one or two glasses per day will do well for the health according to medical history. Generally, wine has been recommended by the physicians to treat iron deficiency anemia. The regular use of wine along with the meals offers many benefits like helping in the digestion process, stimulating the nutrients taken through the food, and also reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering the level of cholesterol.

Moderate drinking of wine also has the following benefits:

  • Lower the level of bad cholesterol
  • Increase the level of good cholesterol
  • Lower the blood pressure
  • Increase in bone density
  • Risk of having a kidney stone is reduced
  • Enhances the memory power

Though drinking wine has the benefits mentioned above, we still hear about its harmful effects. The negative aspects, which are mainly alcohol, may lead to cirrhosis and liver cancer.

Few researchers think that alcohol is a cleanser or a disinfectant for killing disease-causing germs. Conversely, do not be in urgent to get any bottle of wine and expect to improve your health. Wine differs in their style and taste since they vary from region to region, grape variety, and also in the production method. In the same way, wine also differs in their phenol types and concentration. Resveratrol is present more in younger wines than in the aged wines and more in red wines than in white wines. So it is always better to choose a young bottle of red wine.

During the fermentation process, the sugar in the grape juice is converted into ethanol. Apart from alcohol, some other organic chemicals are got as a result of fermentation, and these chemicals belong to the phenol family. These are called Flavonoids. These attributes of the wine are responsible for the characteristics of the wine.

The studies are well restricted to the point that the improvement by drinking wine is seen when alcohol consumption is moderate. Moderate drinking of wine specifies the intake of about 25 grams of ethanol per day. This amount can be reached by drinking 1 or 2 drinks of 5 ounces of wine and beer and 1 ounce of liquor. The adverse effects outweigh the positive impact when more alcohol is consumed.

Here is how wine is good for your health.

Good for the Heart

Building up of cholesterol in the arteries leads to Coronary artery disease. The arteries are the primary units that supply blood to the heart. So when these arteries are blocked heart does not get enough oxygen, which results in the pain.

Many studies suggest that moderate consumption of red wine will prevent a heart attack for the peoples at the age of 30 to 50. It has also been said that red wine will prevent additional heart attacks if a person had already suffered from one.

The cholesterol that blocks the arteries are called bad cholesterol (LDL). This bad cholesterol has been removed from the body by the high-density lipoproteins (HDL). So, moderate consumption of wine produces a balance of these two properties. Besides, wine has some anti-coagulation effect which makes the blood clot to be rare.

Wine and Digestion

Wine helps in the production of flow and gastric juice, which improves the digestion process by breaking down the food in the stomach quickly as well as effectively. For many, after the age of 50, the body may not be able to produce enough hydrochloric acid that aids indigestion. So doctors suggest a glass of wine along with their meal.
